Long-time local resident Susan Kramer is the Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park. She has lived in the area for over a decade and works hard to improve the quality of life of all residents.

Personal Details

  • Born 21 July 1950

  • She was married to John for 35 years until his death in September 2006. She has lived in Barnes since 1993.

  • Children: Jonathan and Abigail, baby granddaughter, Arabella and baby grandson, Dyami.

Professional Details

  • Made her career in finance as a Vice-President of Citibank, a leading international bank

  • Joined colleagues in setting up Future Water International, an environmentally friendly waste water recycling project in Hungary

  • Created a business with her husband, International Capital Partners (ICP) to advise on infrastructure projects primarily in Central and Eastern Europe and remains a director of that firm

Political Life

  • Joined Liberal Democrat Party in 1994

  • Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of London in 2000

  • Elected to Parliament to represent Richmond Park in May 2005

  • Member, Treasury Select Committee (May 2005-March 2006)

  • Liberal Democrat Ambassador to The City

  • Served as Shadow Trade and Industry spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats in Parliament, then as Shadow Transport Spokesperson. Susan was appointed the Liberal Democrats Families Spokesperson in January 2008.

Community Activities

  • Member of the Board of Transport for London 2000-2005

  • Governor of two primary schools including Barnes Primary in her local area

  • Vice-President of a national cancer charity

  • Active in local causes especially those focused on improving the lives of young people.

  • President of the Oxford Union (1971) (second woman to be President)

  • MBA University of Illinois

Interests and Activities

  • Theatre (performed at 1970 Edinburgh Fringe) and is a regular theatre goer.

  • Travelling.

  • Susan took part in the Great River Race in September 2006 as part of a skiffing crew
