Susan's Business Experience

Susan in London

"Susan Kramer talks with great precision and knowledge" - Financial Times

"Quiet thoughtful and independent-minded banker with American as well as British experience" - Matthew Parris, The Times

  • In 1988 Susan became a Vice-President of Citibank based in Chicago, USA. She worked with large multi-nationals on financing acquisitions and buy-outs. This work involved creating sophisticated financial structures and complex multi-million dollar negotiations.

  • In 1993 Susan had the opportunity to work with a regeneration partnership in Hungary. As Chief Operating Officer for a waste-water recycling partnership, Susan was responsible for the costing and financing of the entire project.

  • Susan and her husband, John Kramer, along with fellow associates, set up their own company. John had been Secretary of State for Transport in Illinois and Chief Executive for the Chicago Regional Transportation Authority. Together as a partners they arranged the business end of infrastructure projects in Hungary, Poland, Romania and Austria. Two of these projects included the financing of mobile telephones in Romania and structured road charging in Poland and Croatia. After only two years the reputation Susan and John had built for their company was strong enough to form a relationship with the Austrian bank CAIB and develop their company as a joint venture based in London and Vienna. When CAIB was bought by a competitor, the joint venture was dissolved and the Kramer portion was subsequently reorganised as Infrastructure Capital Partners (ICP) Ltd.

  • Susan has continued as a director of ICP where she has been involved in planning and arranging financing for major rail and other infrastructure projects in Germany, Austria, Italy and elsewhere in Europe. She is also a Non-Executive Director of Specialty Scanners plc, which is dedicated to the engineering and construction of breast MR scanners.

  • During her career Susan has established a strong track record of organising and financing transport and infrastructure projects around the world. She has worked with both businesses and governments and to develop a deeper knowledge of banking and finance in order to work out imaginative funding solutions. Her experience of using bonds to pay for many projects has confirmed her view that revenue bonds are the best way to get billions of pounds invested in an effort to improve the Tube.
