Susan Kramer MP and Leader of the Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg campaign to save Kingston Hospital

Local Liberal Democrat MPs, Susan Kramer (Richmond Park) and Edward Davey (Kingston and Surbiton) have joined forces to launch a pre-emptive campaign against threats to Kingston Hospital's Accident and Emergency Department and Maternity Unit.

Senior NHS staff have blown the whistle on Labour proposals to close Accident and Emergency services and Maternity services at Kingston Hospital.

Susan Kramer added:

"This would gut our hospital and local NHS. People would have to travel miles, on congested roads to St Georges in Tooting. The NHS bosses have no business keeping these ideas secret just because there's an election - that's exactly when people have the right to know.

"Local residents will remember when the same happened at Queen Mary Hospital in Roehampton - once A&E and Maternity were closed most of the rest of the hospital closed shortly afterwards. We cannot allow this to happen to Kingston."

"I just hope as many people as possible join our campaign so we can defeat this ludicrous idea before the election."
