1.16.57pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 8th Jul 2008

Susan Kramer MP and local people protest against Heathrow expansion.

Commenting on today's announcement that a decision on the future of Heathrow expansion would not be made until later in the year, Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park said:

"Reading between the lines, it seems that the Government has been stunned by the strength of feeling on this issue."

"Communities of every socio-economic group and ethnicity have united in opposing these destructive plans for Heathrow expansion."

"The Government must realise that south west London is a complex community in which everyone thrives because the environment in which we live is positive."

"We all stand to lose if the plans are approved, and I hope the Government's future work is not to try and divide communities over this issue."
