THAMES WATER SHOULD SPEED UP TERRACE WORKS - KRAMER

10.14.30pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 21st Apr 2008

Local MP, Susan Kramer, is calling on Thames Water to speed up the works on the Terrace in Barnes which are causing traffic havoc in Mortlake, Barnes and Sheen.

Susan Kramer MP said:

"I have gone to the work site and seen almost no-one working which is outrageous given the inconvenience to residents and the loss of business for small traders."

"We all understand that Thames Water has to replace Victorian pipes but the faster this is done the better."

"The Council has completed the disruptive parts of its work in the area such as resurfacing Barnes High St, which it timed to minimise the length of the severe inconvenience."

"Now that the schools are all back from half-term the traffic snarl-ups due to Thames Water are agony."

"Thames Water's communication to people in the area has also been very poor. I am asking the Council to help with this but really council taxpayers should not have to pay for Thames Water's failures."
