MP CALLS FOR CLARITY OVER ROADWORKS

4.34.04pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th Apr 2008

Susan Kramer MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston has spoken up for the hundreds people who are affected by ongoing roadworks across the local area.

Susan Kramer commented:

"We need better information about when are where roadworks are going to take place, and better organisation between the various utility companies."

"Having spoken to local shopkeepers, it is clear that they are finding out the details of these works very late in the day, which is unacceptable given the impact they can have on their trade"

"While these works are necessary, local people feel like their roads are constantly being dug up, causing problems with traffic and pedestrian access."

"Surely doing roadworks in outer London in the summer would be a better idea, as many more people are on holiday, minimising disruption."

"I will be writing to the utility companies who are currently carrying out works in the constituency to ask them to ensure that local people and businesses are thoroughly consulted and informed before any work begins."

"I will also be asking them to co-ordinate roadworks to avoid roads being dug up for different reasons on different occasions."
