MP WELCOMES COURT CHALLENGE TO POST OFFICE CLOSURES

4.33.36pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 4th Apr 2008

Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston has welcomed a High Court challenge to the Government's programme of Post Office closures by the Greater London Authority.

The Greater London Authority is seeking a judicial review based on the Post Office's failure to allow adequate time for a full consultation on the closures. If the review is successful, it will force Post Office Limited to extend the consultation period.

Susan Kramer MP commented:

"I fully support this bid to halt the closure of Post Offices across London."

"Local people have told me time and again how important their Post Offices are to them and to the local community as a whole."

"The Chestnut Grove Post Office is under threat in North Kingston and I know it would be a real blow to the local community if it were to close."

"Extending the consultation period would force the Post Office to take the huge expressions of opposition to this closure seriously."
