MP WELCOMES INCREASE IN DRUG TREATMENT BUDGET

A 40 per cent increase in the pooled drug treatment budget for Richmond upon Thames has been welcomed by MP Susan Kramer.

She said that it was recognition by Ministers that the area had not previously received its full share of funding.

Susan Kramer said:

"I have been asking questions in Parliament about drugs and alcohol funding for our area.

"Often it is hard to get beneath the jargon of Ministers' answers to get the true picture.

"I welcome the increase by the Department of Health for drugs treatment services but I also feel that alcohol services are often the poor relation when it comes to decisions on government cash.

"Alcohol abuse is at the root of so many problems including domestic violence and is often the Cinderella service."
