This week marks the end of a London-wide grant to help get rid of abandoned cars from local streets.

'Operation Scrap-It' was a £13 million scheme which ran for two years.

Now Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park, has criticised the decision, by Ministers, not to renew the grant.

Susan Kramer said:

" This is bad news for our area. Now the boroughs are being asked to pick up the cost of shifting abandoned vehicles. How realistic is that?

" My Lib Dem colleagues on the GLA have asked the Mayor to see if he can find funding but it is a real shame that the government could not continue a scheme which has been judged to be a success.

" People dump cars and vans in residential streets and with parking at a premium they are an environmental eye sore and a huge inconvenience for local residents."
