Richmond Survey Shows Huge Support For Plastics Recycling12.00.00am GMT Tue 22nd Feb 2005
A survey of 500 Richmond residents shows huge support for a campaign to recycle plastics as part of the door-to-door service to households. The research was carried out in January by Liberal Democrats in the borough. It formed part of their winter campaign headed up by Susan Kramer, PPC for Richmond Park.Of the 500 people surveyed 453 respondents (or 90.6 per cent) supported a doorstep plastics recycling service. The survey was carried out in Ham, Petersham, Kew, Richmond town centre, Barnes, East Sheen and Mortlake. Susan Kramer said: "I have been campaigning on this issue for some time and wanted to know what kind of support we had for this policy in the borough. "I am glad to say that there is an overwhelming majority in favour of our proposals. We have asked people what they would like to see so that we can reduce the waste that occurs." Kramer will submit the findings to the borough's Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee. She is also pressurising Mayor Ken Livingston to set up a London based plastics recycling and reprocessing facility. 16 out of London's 33 boroughs have door-to-door plastics collections.
