ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE TO BARNES COMMON DOG WATCH

Local police found a warm response to their scheme to set up a "dog watch" for Barnes Common. Dog walkers and others who regularly use Barnes Common are being asked to join this variation on Neighbourhood Watch.

CAMERON CAVES ON LONDON AIRPORT EXPANSION

On the "The Andrew Marr Show" yesterday, David Cameron, refused to oppose expansion of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports saying: "That's something that has to go through the planning system".

CUT THE CARBON MARCH IN RICHMOND PARK

The Christian Aid "Cut the Carbon March" walked through Richmond Park on Sunday from the Kingston Gate to the Roehampton Gate. The marchers started in Ireland in mid-July and have reached London via Scotland and Western England. The March will end with a service at St Paul's Cathedral on Tuesday.

LOCAL RESIDENTS SEEK SUPPORT FOR FATHER DETAINED IN SUDAN

Visiting Sudan and Darfur as part of a delegation ahead of upcoming peace talks, Susan Kramer MP met local residents battling for the release from detention of their farther, Mr Mubarak El-Mahdi, head of the Umma Reform and Renewal political Party in Sudan.

KRAMER DEPLORES POST OFFICE DECISION TO CLOSE RICHMOND

Post Office Ltd., in a letter to Susan Kramer MP, has confirmed that it has decided to go ahead with the closure of Richmond Crown Post Office in George St and to transfer services to the rear, first floor of W.H. Smith. This is despite a petition with over 1,250 signatures, protest at a public meeting and many local letters in opposition.

South West Main Line Route Utilization Strategy

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the draft Route Utilization Strategy (RUS) for the South West Main Line. This document will have a significant impact on the constituency of Richmond Park, which includes North Kingston as well as Richmond, and which is heavily dependent on rail transport.

Article for the Social Market Foundation Newsletter

One of my constituents reminded me, as I continued at a frantic pace after the General Election, "slow down dear. Remember there are 4 years or you'll do yourself an injury". And perhaps that is good advice for the party too. The temptation is powerful to use our Conference week in Blackpool this month to pass judgement on past performance, cure all ills and begin the campaign for 2009. That might suit the media but it understates the goal ahead.
