CUT THE CARBON MARCH IN RICHMOND PARK

The Christian Aid "Cut the Carbon March" walked through Richmond Park on Sunday from the Kingston Gate to the Roehampton Gate. The marchers started in Ireland in mid-July and have reached London via Scotland and Western England. The March will end with a service at St Paul's Cathedral on Tuesday.

Post Office Ltd., in a letter to Susan Kramer MP, has confirmed that it has decided to go ahead with the closure of Richmond Crown Post Office in George St and to transfer services to the rear, first floor of W.H. Smith. This is despite a petition with over 1,250 signatures, protest at a public meeting and many local letters in opposition.

One of my constituents reminded me, as I continued at a frantic pace after the General Election, "slow down dear. Remember there are 4 years or you'll do yourself an injury". And perhaps that is good advice for the party too. The temptation is powerful to use our Conference week in Blackpool this month to pass judgement on past performance, cure all ills and begin the campaign for 2009. That might suit the media but it understates the goal ahead.
