KRAMER SLAMS GOVERNMENT ON HEATHROWWritten by SUSAN KRAMER MP on Mon 1st Oct 2007 Statements by Ruth Kelly, Secretary for Transport, that a third runway at Heathrow is "so vital to Britain's international competitiveness" have been slammed by local MP, Susan Kramer. Kramer said that Ruth Kelly's comments, made at the Labour Party Conference "make a farce of the upcoming consultation on Heathrow expansion. "Ruth Kelly should know that local people will not be silenced despite Government attempts to make expansion and more flights at Heathrow a foregone conclusion. "The economic benefits of constantly growing Heathrow are extremely questionable. We will make those points in the consultation and fight this all the way." This week the BBC also exposed that some 20% more night flights than permitted have been using Heathrow. Kramer commented "local people are suspicious that flights to London are delayed more that to other cities because Heathrow is perceived to have a lax nightflight regime. Its time to end nightflights altogether". ENDS
