Susan Kramer MP for Richmond Park

GOVERNMENT RECOVERY GRANT NICE BUT A BIT BESIDE THE POINT

Written by SUSAN KRAMER MP on Tue 4th Sep 2007

In a letter to Susan Kramer MP, the Department Communities and Local Government announced a second small grant to Richmond and Kingston Councils of £5,750 each.

Kramer said: "It is always nice to have a bit of money though I'm not sure what a sum like this actually can buy in local government terms.

"What we really need is more power for the local council to inspect our drainage systems as it used to do in the past before Thames Water took away the role.

"Although the last floods did little local damage and I found both boroughs had efficient incident rooms, it really is clear that more local control could avert problems and provide better co-ordination. No-one seems clear who is actually meant to do what."
